To start this adventure, we have to move to Coca city (Francisco de Orellana) you can move there by bus or by plane, always I recommend to stay a night before starts the tour in Coca City to be fresh for the next day
Coca City is located in the Amazon Rainforest at the confluence of the Coca River and the Napo River (the smaller Payamino River also merges into the Napo in the city).

It has a population of 45.000 inhabitants. It is visited by tourists going into the Amazonian Forest and is served by the Francisco de Orellana Airport.


The city is named for Francisco de Orellana, first known navigation of the entire length of the Amazon River, which initially was named “Rio de Orellana, he explored the confluence of the Coca River and the Napo River, it is believed that he set sail from the current location of the town eventually making his way into the Amazon River seeing the “Amazon” or tribes in which the women also fought. Eventually Francisco de Orellana made it to the Atlantic. He made a second expedition leaving but died on the Amazon delta unable to find a way through…”

He also founded the city of Guayaquil in what is now Ecuador.
It is incredibly hot and humid; temperatures range from 20-40 centigrade but generally humidity is very high and the temperature is at least in the high 20s.

On this day you will have time to do breakfast by your own, I know a good bakery for that, later will start a drive with all the equipment, food, gasoline for 1h and half to Dayuma a little oil production town with a lot of Story, been Dayuma the first Lady Waorani in contact with the missionaries in the 50´ s this town is between Coca city and the Shiripuno river Port, in this town will made the last shopping and lunch to finish our drive for 1 hour more to the Shiripuno River Port.

We will park the bicycles for a 2-line Canopy tour:

  • The first one is 500 meters long and passes over the waterfall.
  • We will take a short walk through fruit trees until we reach the other line.
  • The second line is 700 meters, returning to the bicycles.

We will park the bikes at the restaurant Aroma y Sabores de Mercedes.

  • We will walk 1 km to the Pailón del Diablo waterfall. 
  • We will visit the “Balcones” (Balconies) and the “Grieta al Cielo” (Crack to the Sky).
  • We will cross the first suspension bridge dating from 1940 to have a view of the waterfall.
  • We will walk 1 km back to the bicycles.
  • We will park the bicycles
  • We will walk 25 minutes to the Cascada del Rocío waterfall, where you can swim in the natural wells. 

We will return to the bicycles to go back to Rio Verde and take the transport to Baños 

How does the independent tour work?

  • The tour starts at our office in the city of Baños where we will explain the entire route through photographs.
  • Using Google Maps we will show you the most important points, such as the Canopy.
  • We offer an optional information service via WhatsApp if you do not find the places or if you require any other information.

We will have a basic repair kit with which you can repair the tires yourself, if there is more serious damage to the bike you will have to contact the office, we will be happy to help you.

At the beginning of the tour in the office, we will give you a chain with a padlock along with the repair kit so that you can secure it every time you stop.

Yes, this route is very touristy and you will always find more people on bicycles.

Yes, on the tour you will see many stores and restaurants with a wide variety of food and drinks.

You can continue on the main road until you can and then you will have to look for a bus stop to take any bus going to Baños, if it has space in the luggage storage, the bus will stop and load the bike in the cargo area or simply return to Baños in the Rio Verde transportation, you can continue with the bike until 8:00 pm (closing time of the office).
